Because of its varied territory and different cultural environments, Abruzzo offers a variety of typical food which ranges from the traditional dishes of the shepherds, up on the mountains to peasant cuisine, on the hills and in the valleys, while on the coast the cuisine specialises in uncomplicated seafood dishes.

What is typical:

  • Confetti di Sulmona - world famous Sugar coated almonds arranged in flower compositions
  • Cakes: bocconotti, cicerchiata, Fiadoni, Pan dell'Orso, Mostacciolo, Sise delle Monache, Ciambella di Castiglione, Parrozzo.
  • Soft Nougat from L'aquila
  • Several kinds of cheeses among which the famous Caprino Abruzzese, Pecorino, Pecorino Canestrato Di Castel Del Monte, Ricotta, Scamorza-Mozzarella
  • Centerba liquor
  • Honey
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • In Fara Filiorum Petri there are two important producers of pasta: De Cecco and Cocco
  • Arrosticini - lamb on skewers
  • Porchetta Abruzzese - roast pork
  • Saffron (Navelli is world famous for its Saffron)
