Explore Abruzzo

Also known as the unspoilt heart of the Italian peninsula, the Abruzzi region possesses such an immense heritage of castles and forts unlike anywhere else in Italy or Europe.

Although very close to Rome, some parts of Abruzzo feature almost pristine wilderness, where even wolves, golden eagles and bears may still be found. Abruzzo is also renown for its beautiful coastline with its sandy beaches and for its beautiful nature reserves including Gran Sasso National Park, which is home to the highest peak in the Apennines and from whose summit you are able to see both the Adriatic sea to the east and the Tyrrhenian sea to the west, Maiella National Park, dotted with remote medieval monasteries, and Abruzzo National Park, one of the oldest protected landscapes in Italy.
Medieval villages are scattered all over the region, which also abounds in churches, abbeys and well-preserved hidden monasteries most of which have not been restored and can still be seen in their original state.
