Food - and Products of Abruzzo

Known for its strong flavours, the food in Abruzzo is simply unforgettable.

The most important meal is lunch. Not much attention is given to breakfast which consists of a coffee and a dough (called "pasta") or croissant (called "cornetto"). Restaurants open after 7.30 pm for an evening meal and kitchens close between 10 and 11 pm.
A typical meal in a restaurant consists of two main courses - one is a choice of pasta, which is usually home-made, and the other is usually meat or fish, all served with wine. In addition to your main courses you will get a selection of side dishes: Finally, they offer a dessert with a liquour called amaro to help with your digestion.
The price depends mostly on the wine you choose and on the number of courses you want. On average, a complete meal may cost as little as 15 euros if you eat in a local restaurant with local wine .
